Job Opportunities

Why work at Hodge Foundry Inc.?

From our home page you have learned about what products we produce and our history in the Greenville area, however, what we haven't talked about yet are our employees.

Employees are the key to Hodge Foundry's success. No two castings are alike and no two jobs are alike. It takes a team of knowledgeable engineers, quality control personnel, journeymen and skilled trade craftsmen to produce our castings. Each employee from laborer to manager has the opportunity to be a contributor, and thus each person shares responsibility for the final product.

Our production and maintenance personnel are proud members of the Glass, Molders, Pottery, Plastics & Allied Workers Local 273. We are committed to producing on-time, quality castings and furthering the job opportunities available. We offer 5 state approved apprenticeship programs for:

  • Journeyman Patternmaker
  • Journeyman Molder
  • Journeyman Coremaker
  • Journeyman Machinist
  • Journeyman Maintenance

What can HFI offer me?

As an organization we understand individuals have different priorities. Depending your personal goals or perhaps depending upon the stage of life you find yourself in, you may find one or more of the following important to making your career decision:

  • Compensation
  • Work environment
  • Safety & Health, Wellness
  • Benefits, including insurance and retirement savings
  • Flexibility & work/life balance
  • Growth opportunities

Compensation - We offer competitive wages for our area. Several factors externally and internally contribute to determining the compensation packages offered.

For office and managerial positions: Externally we consider the local labor market and salary surveys. Internally we consider experience, skills, job responsibility/accountability, scope of the position, and technical knowledge or degrees required.

Job offerings on the shop floor are governed by the negotiated schedule of wages and benefits.

Work Environment - HFI respects the talents of our employees and views their contribution as critical to overall success. The facts speak for themselves, our turnover is below average at less than 11%, and our average length of service is 13 years.

Safety & Health - Our joint safety committee meets monthly to address safety issues within the shop and suggest changes. Committee members also conduct safety tours of designated areas within the shop and surrounding buildings. Industrial hygiene (air & noise) sampling is performed regularly and personal protective equipment is tailored to the specific job and exposures within the foundry. Each employee receives an annual physical in which hearing and audio tests are performed.

It is our expectation that each and every employee be involved in meeting our safety goals by taking personal responsibility for safety. Engineering controls such as dust collection systems, are used to meet environmental standards.

Benefits - Full-time salaried and non-union hourly employees are eligible for:

  • Group Health Insurance - employees pay 10% of the monthly premium by payroll deduction. The plan provides 100% in network coverage with a minimal office visit co-pay and 80% coverage out of network. There is not an in-network deductible.
  • Life Insurance - group life insurance is provided at no charge to employees
  • Short-term & Long-term Disability or Sickness & Accident Plan
  • 401(K) Plan - Employees may save for retirement by making contributions to their 401(K) account. Regardless of whether the employee decides to contribute, HFI makes a Basic contribution of 3%. If the employee does make a contribution, HFI will match half of the first 6% that the employee contributes.
  • Tuition Reimbursement - for employees seeking to earn a degree or further their knowledge for potential advancement, HFI offers reimbursement up to IRS limits for tuition fees and books.

Work/Life Balance - We recognize that the need to meet family schedules and appointments can create stress for our employees. Therefore we allow flexible work hours when possible depending on the position and requirements. Although jobs within the shop are set by the production schedule and contractual start /end times, we attempt to give employees as much notice as possible regarding daily and weekend overtime.

Growth Opportunities - We promote employee involvement in professional and trade organizations. HFI also provides for employees to attend training and professional development courses. Employees have the opportunity to bid on apprenticeships that allow them through a combination of self-study, on-the-job training and classroom training to learn skills critical to becoming craftsmen.
